Director Sterling NPD

The Director of NPD is a senior level tooling and product engineering position. The ideal candidate will have the following capabilities:

    • Lead product and tooling design reviews with customers, focusing on Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
    • Work with customers’ design engineers to integrate DFM principles into product design
    • Support production tooling and injection molding projects from a DFM perspective
    • Oversee design and development of tools, specifically rapid prototype tools, MUD inserts, pilot/bridge tools
    • Manage tool construction and sampling at domestic and overseas tooling partners
    • Act as program manager and point of contact for development and pre-production programs
    • Suggest appropriate product design adjustments based on understanding of tooling and injection molding requirements
    • Clearly identify customer requirements/goals in early discussions to ensure tool design and prototype strategy is aligned with long-term manufacturing goals
    • Integrate customer expectations, timeline and product requirements into prototype/development strategy
    • Work with customers and Sterling’s quality department to determine CTQ dimensions
    • Oversee material selection as well as validation, secondary operation, packaging and shipping requirements
    • Qualify tooling partners and other vendors to support development and experimental programs

 

Requirements

  • 5 - 10 years in tool design, medical product injection molding and product development
  • High degree of proficiency with SolidWorks
  • Processing knowledge, experience with Engel injection machines a plus
  • Knowledge of standard metrology techniques

The Director of NPD will work across multiple departments and the position requires ongoing collaboration with production, quality and purchasing teams.
